WAITIKI’s “Mistress Helenini”: Helen Liu (violin & birdcalls)
A native of Mooshington, D.C. - the capital village of Okonkuluku, Mistress Helenini has the distinction of being the world’s first exotic, and recorded, violinyitaryrist. Helenini is also the leading female voice of the WAITIKI Villagers Chorus and is first violinist of the WAITIKI String Quartiki (WSQ). Helenini has been the dedicatee of several of Professah Humming Flower’s compositions, including two works on the Charred Mammal Flesh album: “Satyritar,” a solo piece for violinyitar, and “Cave of Uldo,” on which the WSQ makes its debut. Additionally she is Principal Guest Panda on “Pan-XOTIK-Da,” frequently holding up signs that say BAM and BOO. (Altogether, now: Bamboo!!!)
When not leading the Villagers of Okonkuluku in Ka-Ka-Ka-Kas or Yee- Haws, Helenini performs as her alter ego: classical violinist Helen Liu. In 2004, Helen was Assistant Concertmaster for the National Repertory Orchestra (Breckenridge, CO). She has also performed at the AIMS Festival in Graz, Austria. Helen holds performance degrees from New England Conservatory, the University of Maryland, and most recently, her doctorate from SUNY-Stonybrook. Helen is a founding member of The HARX, an edgy Christmas band based in Boston, with whom she recorded the album “Silent Eggnog.”
